“Can your team film a commercial quickly, with quality and style?”

About a month and a half ago, a Latvian company Eirodurvis approached us with their original idea for a video advertisement.
The client's request immediately seemed interesting — Eirodurvis wanted to recreate the famous scene from the movie "Titanic" (yes, that one), where Jack and Rose, after the disastrous events on the ship, end up in the open ocean, left to fate's mercy. The only thing that could save them — a door drifting on the water's surface. A sharp-witted reader will immediately understand why this reference seemed appealing to the company — after all, Eirodurvis manufactures doors!

When faced with such a creative task, a clear vision of how the final product would look immediately formed in our minds, and without further ado — here's how it turned out:

We think many will be interested not only in what we do, but also in how we do it. This article is dedicated to exactly that — we'll explain step by step how Videoservice goes from an idea pitch to a finished product!

1. Pre-production

Eirodurvis first contacted us after finding our studio's website through Google search. Since the client already had a clear vision for the ad, our task was to develop a practical action plan — creating the script, casting actors, finding filming locations and planning their lighting, preparing the shooting schedule, and of course, the actual filming.
It might seem like there are many steps, and there are, but in reality this entire process from the first call to the final version took less than two months! Details below!

A crucial foundation for successful and smooth collaboration is a well-thought-out script that considers all essential factors — whether actors will be needed and how many, whether sound will be recorded during filming or if there will be voice-over, how the chosen location will affect the shoot, etc. For this particular commercial, thanks to references to the movie scene, two actors were sufficient, and it was decided to record the sound post-production.

For a project to proceed successfully and without misunderstandings for both parties — both client and executors — a detailed shooting plan or even a storyboard is necessary. This is a visual scheme or description of each shot that allows both parties to understand exactly what will be filmed before shooting begins. This prevents misunderstandings and disappointment when "something goes wrong" (because without a plan, something always goes wrong ?).
We at Videoservice pride ourselves on this approach, which gives our clients fewer headaches and more joy in seeing their idea realized exactly as they envisioned it!

2. Location

The choice of the right location played an important role in the speed and quality of pre-production — the Novikontas maritime training center was selected for filming, whose pool can simulate real ocean waves, poor visibility, and even heavy rain.

This choice significantly eased both our work and the client's costs — instead of building a complex filming set with special effects, renting a space already equipped with everything necessary was sufficient.
Before the shooting day, of course, we visited the location, planned the lighting setup, chose the best angles — creating a "mental map" for the big day.

When everything was ready — it was time to film!

3. Filming

It's important to mention that the Videoservice filming team for this commercial consisted of only three people. This didn't slow things down but rather accelerated and focused the work. The director, lighting technician, and cinematographer worked like a well-coordinated mechanism, allowing all shots to be captured in just two hours! This also meant — cheaper location rental and lower costs for the client.
We also filmed a short behind-the-scenes reel ?)

After detailed instructions from the training center staff, our actors entered the pool, which momentarily became an imitation of the cold and unruly depths of the North Atlantic, and the director said the long-awaited "ACTION!" — the creative process began!

Lit by powerful NANLITE Forza 500 projectors, guided by the filming team, and following the pre-developed plan, our Jack and Rose performed their roles perfectly. When everything was filmed and the actors dried off, it was time for editing (these days — everything happens on one computer)!

4. Post-production

Now it was time to transform the raw pool footage into marketing gold with a touch of James Cameron's cinematic flair.

Within a week, a rough cut with suitable music was prepared. Once the client approved it, we worked our ✨video magic✨ — adding a 3D model of a sinking ship, lightning effects, "cinematic" color grading, and of course, sound effects with wind and waves.

By the way, an interesting fact — during editing, we watched the footage without color correction for a long time. It looked something like this:

Since sound was to be added only in post-production this time, we did it at the very end.
Here, modern technology came to our aid — in the rough cut, we used an AI-generated voice so the client could hear the text in advance and make changes if needed, before recording the final professional voice-over. Less time, fewer expenses!

The final touch — a specially made animation with the client's logo as the last frame
(by the way, here it is ↓)

...and voilà! The client receives a fully finished product three weeks after filming!
